Mid City Theatre’s Look Back at 2013

Here are our 2013 shows…

SHUT UP, SWEET CHARLOTTE! The show is a side-splitting parody of the original novel and the camp classic film Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964) which starred Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland. This larger-than-life production stars Ricky Graham as Charlotte Hollis and International Drag Sensation Varla Jean Merman (a.k.a. Jeffery Roberson) as Cousin Miriam Deering.– The triple threat talents of director, star and writer Roberson leads a talented cast which includes Michael Sullivan as Harry Wills, Jack Long as Dr. Drew Bayliss, Brian Peterson as Velma Cruther and Yvette Hargis as the only female in this “all male” creative stroke of genius who pulls double duty as Jewel Mayhew and Luke Standish.December, 2012 & January 2013

CHARLES AZNAVOUR, THE MAN AND HIS MUSIC, are unequaled in the entertainment world. The man who reinvented the French chanson, composed more than 600 songs, and sold more than 100 million records world-wide has been an enigma in our country. Praise for Aznavour has run from the “Sinatra of France” to the “World’s Entertainer of the Century”, and although these are monikers to spur lively debate, what is not debatable is that his music is enduring, beautiful, fun, and insightful. For instance, “Yesterday When I Was Young”, he penned it.
Our show featured the angelic voice of Heidi Campbell and an amazing new singer to New Orleans, Hector Ventura. Added to the mix Philip Melancon and a memorable evening was hummed by an appreciative audience. June, 2013

HELL’S BELLES –  Join Running With Scissors as they travel back in time to the Civil War, to the crumbling, dilapidated mansion that houses the French Finishing School for Little Confederate Women. Once a font of gentility and etiquette, it’s now little more than a reform school, chock-full of the bawdiest, cattiest, downright orneriest gals (Kyle Daigrepont, Lisa Picone, Dorian Rush) the South has ever seen, lorded over by spinster sisters Flossie and Fannie French (Brian Peterson, Yvette Hargis)! Into their midst stumbles a seemingly innocent Union soldier (Jack Long/Richard Read), wounded at a nearby battle. He’s taken in and nursed, but what will all those women do with him when he’s well enough to walk again? Will he make it out alive? Will they? HELL’S BELLES is Southern Gothic at its sassiest….June, 2013
